High Voltage Line Fault Detector
The high voltage line fault detector makes nondestructive inspection (NDI) to high voltage line in the state of high voltage & low current by automation or hand operation, which can accurately judge the fault character (permanent/instantaneous fault) of the high voltage line, and it put selective coincidence brake to the fault line so that can avoid forced feeding to the fault line in the state of permanent fault. The detector can effectively reduce the instance of short circuit, and can especially decrease near end short circuit that will make repetitious short circuit current impulsion to the expensive equipments, such as transformer and breaker, etc, which can avoid widening the accident scope, extend the reconditioning period and service life of the equipments, and effectively improve the function environment of power supply equipment and high voltage electric.
The components and elements of the detector
The detector is composed of the primary equipments, including special high voltage fuse, high voltage current limiting device, voltage, current mutual inductor and compound isolated circuit, and the secondary equipments, including automatic control device and coincidence brake with the key component of microcomputer fault detector. Put 27.5Kv high voltage into the fault feed line with low current to measure the value of voltage and current for 0.5~1 second. According to the value, the detector can judge the fault character, and then put selective locking to the coincidence brake.
The typical applications of the detector
Making short circuit fault as the feed line working normally, the detector will automatically detect whether the high voltage feed line is permanent fault using high voltage & low current, and then determine to do or not power supplying to the feed line coincidence brake. If there is permanent fault, the coincidence brake will lock automatically.
After finding short circuit fault and examining & repairing contact net, transformer and vacuum switch, the detector can detect whether the feed line is permanent fault and the earth circuit is wiped off by hand-operation startup mode, and then switching in & supplying power.
Before supplying electric power to the feed line for the first time, the detector inspects whether the feed line is in the safe state without fault by hand-operation startup mode, and then determines to switch in & supply power to the feed line.
Making power cut to the feed line and before closing the earth switch to feed line, the detector can detect whether the high voltage feed line is in the state without electric power, and then close the earth switch.
Using the way of high voltage & low current, the detector can take low current short circuit test in the electric supplying arm, which will measure the actual reactance value of high voltage feed line in various geography & weather environments, and the actual relative curve with circuitry distance. The detector supplies practical nondestructive inspection to determine the basic parameter of high voltage circuitry and judge the fault point distance.

The detector is designed with reason and supplies a gap of electrified railway in our country, as well it is initiative in home, suggesting popularizing. Through fieldwork operation and test for many years, the detector is proved with high security and veracity. The detector has satisfied the requirements offered by ministry of railways about “actively research & use the automatic coincidence brake judging permanent fault and instantaneous fault” in the policy of 《the main technical equipment policy of railway traction power supplying》. It has been used in many electrified railway programs and the repair programs of railway agency and transformer substation of power supply station in Qin-Shen railway, Xi-He railway, Nei-Kun railway, Zheng-Xu railway and Zhe-Gan railway, etc. The detector gets the practical and new patent of the People’s Republic of China, and is solely produced by us at home.
